Distress Oxide Circle “Kitty Love” Art Journal Page

Distress Oxide Circle “Kitty Love” Art Journal Page

Hello lovely folks,
This past weekend I went to visit my parents which meant I got to stop into my favorite local craft store in Palm Coast. I stocked up with a new Dylusions journal, new stamps, new stencils, some new distress oxides and replenished a few staples like my Distress Resist Spray. From that fun weekend, haul sprang my page for this week. I found an adorable cat stamp, and you’ll know how I love my kitties that I just had to use.

This was done in my 6″ round journal I made with watercolor paper. I used Distress Oxides for the background and a Tim Holtz life quote to finish it off.

June 2018 Mission Inspiration Art Journal Page

Hello,

Happy Wendesday. It is time once more for an art journal share. This week’s page comes from the facebook Mission Inspiration group run by Mike Deakin. Each month a set of prompts are given and are used to build the page. The color scheme this month was funky and vibrant, and trying to incorporate some nature turned out to be a great challenge.

You can read this post on how I made the leaves: DIY PAINTED LEAVES

Here are some still photos of the page to help spark that imagination:

DIY Painted Leaves for Art Journaling

DIY Painted Leaves for Art Journaling

With Spring in the air it felt like a good time to make some DIY painted leaves. For this month’s June Mission Inspiration Art Journal page, a prompt was to include something from nature. That is where these lovely magnolia leaves come into play.

Step 1:
I picked leaves that still had some elasticity to them, not totally dried out. I then brought them in, gently washed them, laid them between two paper towels and put a book on them for a few hours to press.

Step 2:
Once the leaves were clean and pressed I got out the paint pens I purchased at Walmart to have a play. I used colors that were part of the theme from this months journal prompt.

Step 3:
After I did one leaf in just paint pens I decided to see if I could paint the leaves. I grabbed some craft paint in yellow and lime green and applied two coats. Once the leaves were dry, I thought about stamping and that was my next step. I took black archival ink and used it to stamp the leaves. It really brought them to life.

Step 4.
Once I was sure the leaves were dry and the archival ink was dry I went and did some splattering as well adding e blue and some Tim Holtz mica spray for shimmer.

Step 5.
I let the leaves dry well overnight and in the morning I applied mod podge to the front and backs. This will preserve them for some time.

Stay tuned for my post on Wednesday to see how I used these leaves in my journal prompt from the facebook Mission Inspiration group. (June 2018)

I hope this gave you some crafting ideas and I’d love to see what you create!

Happy Crafting!
