New Facebook Monthly Inspiration Challenge Group

New Facebook Monthly Inspiration Challenge Group

I’m back!…. Well almost back!

Hi guys. I am so happy to be typing to you again and sharing with you. I became sick just before Christmas and it knocked me for a loop. I was sick for over three weeks and I am finally on the tail end of it. Lots of good things going on in 2019. Be sure to check out my Youtube channel for little behind the scenes snippets and treats.

The reason I pulled out the laptop tonight to sit with you guys is to let you know I have a new project. One which I am very excited for. I have created a new facebook monthly challenge group. I sat down and made a three-page list of prompts, which you can download for free. You can use this list as you like to help you on your creative journey or you can follow along with me each month. On the second Saturday of each month, I will pull five main prompts and two alternate prompts. I will then create a piece of art. The video will be on my youtube channel and I will make up a card with the prompts to post in the facebook group. In the group, you can share your art you make. I really look forward to connecting with you guys this way in the new year.

You can watch my intro video here that talks a little more about the prompts here: New Monthly Inspiration Prompt Group

You can download the master prompt file here: Master Prompt File

Come join the facebook group here: Side Street Design Studio

I can’t wait to see you guys there!

PS stay tuned my studio is in makeover mode again so before and after photos will be coming along soon!

“Quiet” Art Journal Page- Mission Inspiration 2018 August Mid-Month prompts

Welcome,

Happy Wednesday folks. Today I am back with an art journal share. This is another art journal page that comes from prompts from the monthly Mission Inspiration facebook group I am in, run by Mike Deakin. The mid-month prompts really offer a challenge or more freedom, depending on how you look at it. All you get for these is a word and no other guidelines. For some, this may make it harder, or for others easier. I find it’s a great way to break a blank page. If you are in your art journal and that white page is really glooming at you, stop and walk away. Grab your favorite book or magazine, open to a page and read. A word can easily jar your creativity tree and an idea will fall loose and onto the page of your journal. This month’s mid-month prompt was “Quite”. When I think of quiet I think of a cozy corner with a magazine, a good cup of coffee and just some much needed me time. That is where I went with this month’s prompt. I based it around a photo I have of me from 2014 sipping a really good cup of coffee in a coffee house. It also gave me a great chance to try out some of my new distress oxide colors like ground espresso!. It was quick, fun and just what I needed to scratch that afternoon journal itch.

I hope the page will give you some inspiration and a new way of tackling those blank white pages.

You can find the video on my youtube channel here: August Mid Month Mission Inspiration “Quite”.

August 2018 Mission Inspiration Art Journal Page

August 2018 Mission Inspiration Art Journal Page

Good Morning,

I hope everyone had a nice restful long labor day weekend. I am back in the studio today with a monthly art journal prompt page. This page was the main August 2018 Mission Inspiration page from the facebook Mission Inspiration group created by Mike Deakin Art. Even though it is an August page I wanted to post it in September because it is a special page for me. One of the prompts this month was the word fearless. That word resonated with me. September is Ovarian Cancer awareness month and if you have read my bio, you will know I had ovarian cancer in 2013 and was clear in 2014. I am coming up on my 5-year milestone February 2019 so whenever I see that word fearless it just tugs at me. I looked back thru my old photos and found one of me back when I was all done with treatments and I had super short hair. I loved that curly hair, so easy to maintain. I found a few photos from that time and decided it was time to incorporate them into some journal pages. Now the creepy wolf in the photo, that was from a museum and with fall approaching I thought it was a good mesh of the past and coming holiday seasons. What I love about these monthly prompts is no two journal pages will be the same. A word or color can take you on a path you didn’t expect and really get you out of your box. So, without further ado here is my August 2018 “Fearless” Mission Inspiration page.

Thanks so much for stopping by. I hope this page inspired you and got you in that fall spirit.

July’s Mission Inspiration Page and a Short Break

July’s Mission Inspiration Page and a Short Break

Hello, my lovely followers,

So today to wrap up your week I am bringing you a page I did last weekend and got in just under the wire. My July 2018 Mission Inspiration, prompts art journal page. I had so much fun making this one because it allowed me to use a photo that is one of my favorites. It was taken when my husband and I went on our trip to Santa Fe, New Mexico. I find my soul there, I just felt so at home and I loved it. I can’t wait until we can go back to that wonderful city again and Guadalupe’s Stamp Shop! Since this months prompt required we include a photo I chose that one. Now about the short break. I am so sad about this but I am having some back issues. I have been logging a lot of desk time between my day job and my lovely work with you’ll, so I am going to take this coming weekend off and try to stay off the computer and moving. I may have to extend it to the following weekend. Don’t dismay though if you follow me on social media I will line up some throwbacks to keep you company until I am back.

Oh, I almost forgot to tell you on this one I tested Distress Oxides and Tim Holtz’s micro glaze! I am hooked, it worked fabulously.

June 2018 Mission Inspiration Art Journal Page

Hello,

Happy Wendesday. It is time once more for an art journal share. This week’s page comes from the facebook Mission Inspiration group run by Mike Deakin. Each month a set of prompts are given and are used to build the page. The color scheme this month was funky and vibrant, and trying to incorporate some nature turned out to be a great challenge.

You can find my process video here: https://youtu.be/TBLg5wcuhOw

You can read this post on how I made the leaves: DIY PAINTED LEAVES

Here are some still photos of the page to help spark that imagination:

DIY Painted Leaves for Art Journaling

DIY Painted Leaves for Art Journaling

With Spring in the air it felt like a good time to make some DIY painted leaves. For this month’s June Mission Inspiration Art Journal page, a prompt was to include something from nature. That is where these lovely magnolia leaves come into play.

Step 1:
I picked leaves that still had some elasticity to them, not totally dried out. I then brought them in, gently washed them, laid them between two paper towels and put a book on them for a few hours to press.

Step 2:
Once the leaves were clean and pressed I got out the paint pens I purchased at Walmart to have a play. I used colors that were part of the theme from this months journal prompt.

Step 3:
After I did one leaf in just paint pens I decided to see if I could paint the leaves. I grabbed some craft paint in yellow and lime green and applied two coats. Once the leaves were dry, I thought about stamping and that was my next step. I took black archival ink and used it to stamp the leaves. It really brought them to life.

Step 4.
Once I was sure the leaves were dry and the archival ink was dry I went and did some splattering as well adding e blue and some Tim Holtz mica spray for shimmer.

Step 5.
I let the leaves dry well overnight and in the morning I applied mod podge to the front and backs. This will preserve them for some time.

Stay tuned for my post on Wednesday to see how I used these leaves in my journal prompt from the facebook Mission Inspiration group. (June 2018)

I hope this gave you some crafting ideas and I’d love to see what you create!

Happy Crafting!
