7 Days of Halloween Day 6- Distress Oxide Monster themed artist trading cards

Welcome back to day 6 of my 7 days of Halloween. I had a lot of fun with today’s project. A set of 6 artist trading cards made on mixed media paper using only Distress Oxides and Archival Ink and maybe a little shimmer. For this project, I wanted to show what you could create with limited supplies. The stamp set I used “Monstrous” I was so excited to get in July when I went to Stampfest 2018 and met Tim Holtz and was able to shop the Stampers Anonymous booth. He always has so many great Halloween stamps so hard to choose just one! I also demonstrate in my video how to use the Distress Micro Glaze. For those of you that don’t know what this is, it is a glaze you can put over distress oxide so it will no longer be water reactive, as long as it is applied to a porous surface, like paper.

To make the backgrounds for the stamped images, I used one piece of mixed media paper and in little square sections, I added the distress oxide colors I wanted. I then cut out rectangles, used the micro glaze (note buff it off well after application), and then used the paper in my Tim Holtz Stamp platform. This way I didn’t have to hand color the monsters, I just stamped them on distress oxide background and fussy cut them out. I did the same for the quotes as well. The actual ATC background I cut those out using my Cricut and then added the distress oxide. The finished cutouts were added to the card backs using stick foam dots to add dimension. Sounds simple, but it took some time and was well worth it in the end. Sometimes less is more, which is a balance I am always trying to work on.

You can see my process video here (and there is a special giveaway-watch to learn more): Distress Oxide Monster Artist Trading Cards

Here are still shots of the finished cards:

Which one is your favorite? I’d love to hear your feedback and comments on some of your favorite Halloween ATC techniques.

Thanks for stopping by and Happy Halloween.

Mystery Box- What fun!

Mystery Box- What fun!

Good Morning,

Earlier this week I saw a post from Ranger Ink Industries on social media saying to “stay tuned” for something. So I waited, and then I saw on facebook a post that they were doing a June Mystery Box. For 19.99 plus shipping you could get a box of Ranger products that were being discontinued. So I jumped at the chance, I thought it would be a great way to get some new supplies and a fun video to share. It arrived on Friday. Perfect timing right TGIF! and what a great haul. I’ll post below my unboxing video and a list of the items I received in case you see something you love maybe you can get it before it’s gone!
